About Me

I'm a final year English student at the University of Leicester and enjoy blogging about my cultural experiences whilst studying abroad in Germany. I also enjoy reporting on community news stories that lie under-the-radar of national news.

I'm a 'global citizen', and first encountered the idea of a 'global village' when I worked with the Department for International Development on a youth reporting project called "Write Here Right Now". The global development project taught me the interconnectedness of cultures in spite of borders. Since then, I have remained fascinated by writing and its ability to help us empathise with individuals who at first glance appear remote from our everyday lives.

I'm also interested in social welfare issues in the UK like the Bedroom Tax, and the impact of other social reform bills on minority and disadvantaged communities.

Aside from that, my hobbies include German language and culture, and co-presenting 'Talking Tunes', a student news and music show which airs weekly on LUSH radio.

So whilst you're here, have a browse and feel free to comment!

Nicky.
